Save the Fairview submerged parcels as open shoreline
Parcels of submerged City- and State-owned land totalling 4.5 acres are just offshore from the Fairview Avenue North bridge. This open water and its adjacent shoreline present a rare opportunity to be preserved for the perpetual enjoyment of the public. For background about the history and desirable qualities of these four land parcels, click here.
The Seattle City Light-owned portions of this land are vulnerable to being sold for surplus, and the State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) portions of this land are in danger of being exchanged for land far from Lake Union and from the man people who currently enjoy it.
If sold, these underwater land parcels would likely become a private marina or some other overwater commercial use. One option would be for the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation to purchase the land from its fellow Seattle department, City Light. Another would be for the Washington Department of Natural Resources to DNR to purchase or trade for the land and to dedicate it as open water for recreational and wildlife use.
